Dublin<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wandering the docklands of the river Liffey,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She searches for familiar faces in strangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunrise burns through fog, a hovering blanket<\/p>\n\n\n\n

turned back to rustle the early morning calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dubliners and gadabouts do mingle lazily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She darts and twirls in her feeble quest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then a hushed whisper, a phantom voice calling;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

she spins, eyes straining for a familiar face. But alas,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in haste she dizzily trips against the steely guardrail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pain of her bruises drips tears from her lashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A gusting wind tosses her curls, marring her view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where, oh where can they be? A bump and a stumble,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a murmured utterance \u2018Oh t\u00e1 bron orm, t\u00e1 bron orm!\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now she stoops to retrieve her gift package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pretty and wrapped in glorious green ribbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But passersby indifference gleams upon their shoes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a myriad of shapes and colours reflecting sunlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She lies there sobbing, her forlorn face in tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More bumps and knocks amid the bustle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time she is on her knees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worse still her gift is jostled and knocked for six<\/p>\n\n\n\n

by a stranger’s fleeting steel toe boot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All scuffed and torn, her precious benefaction<\/p>\n\n\n\n

finds restful sanctuary at the well worn bare feet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of bronze cast scrawny Famine statues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stark statuesque stares of her ancestors keening,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agape and staring in mournful monologue,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pleading the age old history of Irish emigrants<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the muted cry of mercy still rings true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weariness takes hold as she winds her way through,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

scattered downcast images of the past abide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each plodding step draws her closer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to the reason for her homecoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s in her blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then, at last, the vision of angelic blue eyes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a child\u2019s face framed by golden curls of fire,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the cuteness of pudgy porcelain white hands,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and the mirrored smile of her mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There they stand, her long awaited couplet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poet lover and their child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has come full circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
